Making wine glasses sing is usually the product of having too many drinks with dinner or sheer boredom, but for Christy Georg, it's part of her contribution to society. The sculptor and Mass Art instructor is the resident Research Associate at the Berwick Research Institute, a lab for artists producing work for noncommercial venues. Georg uses metal and glass to make abstract sculptures out of ordinary objects, with the help of a blowtorkch and other heavy machinery. What differentiates her art form the masses is the use of kinetics, which adds movement to still pieces; the use of motion allows her to transform static objects into a sculpture with varying forms. Georg marks the end of her term and the closing of her exhibit with an open studio event on Thursday, December 18, at 7 pm. Berwick Researdh Institute is located at 14 Palmer St. in Roxbury.
