BRI:AIR, Projects from the Berwick Research
Institutes Artist in Research Program
Curator, Meg Rotzel, Exhibition Design, Ben Durrell and Matthew Christensen
Featuring Vaughn Bell, John Osorio Buck, Christy Georg, Carolyn Lambert
and Fereshteh Toosi,
Ken Linehan, Jessica Rylan, Aliza Shapiro, Amy Sharp, Jonah Rapino and
Devil Music
Traversing multiple genres, including installation, sound, video, performance,
and design, the exhibition BRI:AIR features works resulting from the Berwick
Research Institutes Artist in Research Residency Program. Over the
past three years this program has supported emerging artists who need
time, space, and a critical audience where an artist can perform research.
Founded in 2000 by a committee of artists, the Berwick is dedicated to
facilitating artistic endeavors that exist outside of a commercial economy.
Exhibition curator Meg Rotzel is one of the founders and Executive Director
of the Berwick.
In addition to these works, the Berwick will inhabit the Mills Gallery
with its own mobile studio, bringing its AIR community into the
BCA. The Studio:Lab will act as an ideological and physical platform for
lectures, performances and 3-day residencies throughout the exhibition.
The Studio:Lab changes each time a new artist takes up residence; one
week an artist may be building an electronic project, the next week the
walls can part to house a band, another week the audience could find themselves
inside the studio walls. The Berwick, much like the Studio:Lab, transforms
itself to accommodate artists and their works that live between mediums
and venues, bringing studio practice directly to the public. Please go
to bcaonline.org for current dates and times of all lectures and events.
